Path to citizenship
Armenian citizenship comes after 3 years of lawful residence on a permit (temporary or permanent), with Armenian and a Constitution test taken in Armenian. Dual citizenship is allowed. Spouses of citizens qualify after 2 years of marriage and at least a year on a residence permit, without the language requirement; ethnic Armenians need neither residence nor the test. Processing takes about six months. Men aged 18–55 become subject to military registration once they are citizens. In 2026 the Interior Ministry proposed raising the period to 5 years with 915 days of physical presence and requiring residence from ethnic Armenians — so far only a draft law.
